Message from the Chair
We’re all experiencing it—the dread, the awful anticipation of the next Trump outrage, the next setback from the Supreme Court. We’re all in the same boat.
That’s why what the LD17 Democrats are doing now is so important. Following our Strategic Plan, our leaders and volunteers are helping our voters find community and knowledge in meetings and in protests. We’re letting people know about events being organized by national and local groups through our “Join the Protest Team” sign up. Our newsletter lets people know about as many meetings and events organized by other like-minded groups as we can fit into the available space. We’re actively recruiting new precinct committee members to sign up and get involved.
Since March 1, LD17 volunteers, leaders and partners have organized five public meetings across the district, including two town halls with Kevin Volk, two issues meetings with Kevin and other experts, and an Afternoon of Action where we taught attendees best practices for making phone calls and sending postcards to elected officials. Nearly 400 people attended these gatherings, and each meeting was larger than the last. The overwhelming response from these attendees has been “thank you—it’s so good to know that others feel the same way.”
We plan to continue holding meetings--large and small--to get people together to learn and act. Attending these meetings and sharing information on how to push back is therapeutic for many. I know it is for me! I want to invite you to keep reading the newsletter and our bi-weekly event notifications to find places and methods to protest the Trump administration.
We are strongest when we work together!
