What a Rally! Bernie and AOC in Tucson
They drove to Tucson from El Paso, Texas, for a little weekend fun and a very special event. It was all about Bernie (Sanders) and AOC (Alexandria Ocasio Cortez) and a 14 year old boy. Rodrigo (not his real name) was there with his mother, father, little sister and brother. The latter two kept busy jumping up and down on the curb and playing with toys while we waited in line for entrance to the Catalina High School football field. Rodrigo happily explained his desire to be there with Bernie and AOC. As I asked questions, he enthusiastically explained his interest in politics. He also showed an extensive knowledge of how our government is set up to work as a democracy and how all the pieces fit together. His excitement, interest, and passion for our country’s welfare were contagious.
Bernie and AOC were terrific speakers and gave the approximately 23,000 attendees (largest political rally ever in Arizona, I believe) a lot of hope for the future. Their message was one of resistance to autocracy and letting us all know we can stand together to preserve the rights and freedoms our Constitution and our democracy give us.
It was a powerful rally and wonderful message from Bernie and AOC, but the biggest inspiration and source of hope for me was 14-year-old Rodrigo and his family who thought it was important enough to drive all the way from El Paso to Tucson.
